Flyers Hoping To End Long Winless Drought In Colorado

(Sports Network) - Having lost two straight on their current five-game road trip, the Philadelphia Flyers aim for their first win at Colorado in almost seven years tonight in a matchup with the Avalanche at Pepsi Center.

Philadelphia began its trip with a victory in Los Angeles, but has since dropped consecutive games in San Jose and Phoenix. The Flyers had won seven of eight prior to their two-game skid.

Saturday's 3-1 setback to the Coyotes came with a bit of controversy. With the score even at 1-1 in the third period and the Coyotes on the power play, Phoenix defender Adrian Aucoin bobbled a puck at the blue line and the Flyers felt the play was offsides. However, the game continued and Keith Yandle took a pass at the top of the left circle before beating Flyers netminder Ray Emery with the go-ahead goal.

"One linesman had his hand up and the other waived it off...Those are the break," Flyers forward Scott Hartnell said of the controversial play.

Hartnell scored the only goal of the game for Philadelphia. Emery made 18 saves as the Flyers fell to 4-4-0 on the road this year.

Already without Darroll Powe due to an injury suffered versus the Sharks on Friday, Philadelphia saw fellow center Blair Betts exit Saturday's game with a dislocated shoulder that is expected to sideline him for a month.

Those two join a listed of wounded players that includes forwards Simon Gagne (abdominal/hernia surgery) and Aaron Asham (strained oblique) and defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen (concussion). Winger Andreas Nodl and center Jared Ross were recalled from Adirondack of the American Hockey League on Sunday to fill the ranks.

The short-handed Flyers will try to snap a three-game skid in Colorado, where they haven't won since December 27, 2002. The Avalanche's 5-2 home win over the Flyers in October of last season was their fifth in a row over Philadelphia before the Flyers notched a home win of their own in December.

The Avalanche will try to rebound from blowing a 2-1 lead versus Vancouver on Friday. The Canucks exploded for four goals in the final period to hand Colorado a 5-2 setback.

Matt Duchene and David Jones both scored for the Avs, who have lost five of their last six games (1-4-1). John-Michael Liles (shoulder) returned from a five-game absence to set up both Colorado goals, while Wojtek Wolski also had two assists.

Goaltender Craig Anderson allowed five goals on 28 shots, falling to 1-3-1 with a 3.80 goals-against average in his last five outings.

"You have to keep going for the next goal," Duchene said. "As soon as you start playing with the lead like you're trying not to lose, you're going to lose. We have to learn that; we've done that two games in a row, and we have to stop it."

Colorado also got forward T.J. Galiardi back after he missed nine games with an ankle ailment, but veteran blueliner Adam Foote missed his second consecutive contest with a jaw injury. Foote is doubtful for tonight.

The Avalanche play three of their next four at home, were they are 6-2-0 this year.
