(5) San Jose Sharks (3-1) At (4) Nashville Predators (1-3), 9 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will try to end their Western Conference quarterfinal series in the Music City tonight, when they visit the Predators for Game 5 of the set at Nashville Arena. After the clubs split the first two tilts in Nashville, the Sharks won back- to-back games at home to grab a 3-1 series' lead. San Jose now has a chance to advance to the conference semifinals with a win in this evening's matchup. In Game 4 on Wednesday, Milan Michalek's two goals and Evgeni Nabokov's 23 saves led San Jose to a 3-2 triumph at HP Pavilion. Joe Pavelski also scored for the Sharks, while Jonathan Cheechoo and Joe Thornton each registered a pair of assists in the victory. Thornton, last season's Art Ross and Hart Trophy winner, is leading the Sharks with five points (5 assists) in this series. Michalek, Craig Rivet and Patrick Marleau are next with four points apiece. San Jose once again struggled on the power play, failing to score on five chances with the man advantage. The Sharks are a dismal 1-for-23 on the power play in this series. The Sharks are 7-9 all-time in games where they have a chance to eliminate their opponents. San Jose knocked the Predators out in five games in the 2006 conference quarterfinals, as it won four straight in the series after losing the opener. Jason Arnott and Scott Hartnell each picked up their first goals of the series on Wednesday for the Predators, who have never won a playoff series in their brief history and are 4-11 all-time in the postseason. Tomas Vokoun stopped 20-of-23 shots in defeat and fell to 3-7 lifetime in the postseason. Vokoun was forced to sit out last year's playoff matchup with the Sharks because of a blood clot condition. The Predators had an excellent 28-8-5 mark at home this year, but the Sharks were tops in the NHL with 26 road wins. If the Sharks fail to close out this set tonight, the teams will meet Sunday in San Jose.
