Anaheim, CA -- (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 23 saves for his third shutout of the season and Teemu Selanne scored twice, as the Anaheim Ducks blanked the San Jose Sharks, 5-0, at Honda Center. Chris Pronger, Ryan Getzlaf and Francois Beauchemin also scored for Anaheim, which has won two straight games and will travel to Denver to face the Avalanche on Wednesday. Evgeni Nabokov allowed five goals on 44 shots as the Sharks goaltending battle continued to take shape. On Saturday, Vesa Toskala allowed one goal and defeated Philadelphia. The two netminders have been alternating starts this season and rumors continue to swirl around the possible trade of either one. Despite the loss, San Jose is 6-3 in the month of November and will host the Kings on Wednesday. The Ducks now lead the Sharks by five points atop the Pacific Division. "We play seven more games against them so it is important, especially at home, to show we can play well against them," said Giguere. "I thought that was a great effort by our team." Following a scoreless opening period, the Ducks netted two goals in the middle session to take control. After Pronger's fourth goal at 7:13, a costly deflection led to another Anaheim goal. On the power play, a shot from the right point caromed off the stick of Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic and directly to Getzlaf, who fired home a snap shot from the outer rim of the left circle with 2:17 remaining in the second period. In the third period, the Ducks continued to control the offensive action and made it 3-0 at the 6:28 mark. Andy McDonald streaked down the right-wing side and fired a wrist shot from inside the circle that was saved by Nabokov. But McDonald followed the rebound behind the net and sent a backhand pass to the top of the crease where Selanne's one-timer slid through Nabokov's legs. "We worked extremely hard for everything that we got," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "I'm very satisfied - this was our most complete game of the year." Another unlucky bounce for San Jose made it 4-0 with under five minutes remaining in regulation. Skating 5-on-4 due to a high-sticking minor to Rob Davison, the Ducks worked the puck around the perimeter until a one-timer from the right point was released by Beauchemin. On its way to the net, the puck deflected off the shin pad of San Jose rearguard Christian Ehrhoff and the misdirection fooled Nabokov at 15:48. The final goal of the game came on a nice individual effort by Selanne, who skated through the right circle with Scott Hannan draped on his back. Selanne partially fanned on his initial shot attempt but stayed with the play and poked the puck home from a sharp angle beneath the circle with 2:18 remaining in regulation. "Everybody says that (Anaheim) is the best team in the league, and tonight they really gave it to us," said San Jose's Joe Thornton. "It showed on the scoreboard."Game Notes:This marked Giguere's 24th career shutout...Selanne now has 499 career goals...The Ducks improved to 10-1-4 at home this season...Sharks sniper Jonathan Cheechoo missed his second straight game with a leg injury...San Jose fell to 8-5 on the road in 2006-07...The Ducks were 2-for-5 on the power play.
