Jags WR Porter Undergoes Surgery

POSTED: 9:00 pm EDT July 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jerry Porter underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair a hamstring tendon that was not healing.

Porter, who is expected to recover in time for the Sept. 9, season opener against Tennessee, will be sidelined for six to eight weeks while likely missing all of training camp and the preseason.

The 30-year-old signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Jags in February after playing all 16 games for the Raiders in 2007, finishing with 44 catches for 705 yards and six touchdowns. The former second-round pick from West Virginia had 284 receptions for 3,939 yards and 30 touchdowns in his eight seasons with Oakland.
