Mary Saladna

Mary Saladna serves as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for NewsCenter 5.

Before joining Channel 5 in September 1999, Saladna had been the co-anchor of WGAL-TV’s 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekday newscasts. WGAL and WCVB are both owned by Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc.

Saladna’s broadcast background includes stints as a promotional producer at KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh; anchor/reporter at WHAG-TV, Hagerstown, Md; anchor/reporter at WJAC-TV, Johnstown, Penn.; and creator, executive producer and host of "Pulse," an award-winning health care issues magazine that has been nominated for a national Emmy, regional Emmy, Iris Award and has won three Pennsylvania Association of Broadcaster’s awards.

During her tenure at WCVB, Saladna has been nominated three times for a New England Emmy Award for Individual Achievement for her anchoring. She won the honor in 2001. Saladna has also received Emmy nominations for her work as a NewsCenter 5 reporter.

While at WGAL, Saladna received six Emmy nominations for her reporting and anchoring from the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She also has several Associated Press Awards to her credit.

Saladna attended Pennsylvania State University where she majored in marketing, and the University of Exeter in England where she studied international business and politics.

In the past Saladna has volunteered her time to the Children’s Miracle Network, United Cerebral Palsy, Easter Seals, Special Olympics, MADD/SADD and children’s safety groups. She is also an advocate for voting, CPR training, organ donation and AIDS awareness.

Saladna resides in the Boston area with her husband Ed Shipman and son Sam.
