Jim Boyd

Jim Boyd was named Special Correspondent for WCVB-TV Channel 5 and TheBostonChannel.com in 2006.

Boyd has been with the station since WCVB went on the air in March, 1972. Boyd has served in many roles during his tenure. He joined the station as general assignment reporter before moving on to anchor the weekend newscasts and co-anchor the Midday and EyeOpener broadcasts.

Boyd began his career in public television. He came to WCVB from the PBS station WNET in New York City.

At WNET, he was an associate producer and producer on the Emmy Award-winning News In Perspective, a news analysis program produced by National Educational Television and The New York Times. Boyd traveled to Japan, Vietnam, West Germany, England, France, and Sweden in his work with News In Perspective, while also producing numerous programs throughout major cities in the United States.

Outside the newsroom, Boyd works with many area school groups, youth organizations and charitable agencies. Actively involved in his hometown community of Needham, Boyd regularly coaches youth softball, track, basketball and soccer.

He has held positions on several boards of directors including Boston's Youth Enrichment Services, the Roxbury YMCA, and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

He has also been a local board member of AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

Boyd and his wife, Linda Polach, former senior producer for NewsCenter 5, live in Needham with their two daughters.
