Liz Brunner

Liz Brunner is co-anchor of NewsCenter 5 at 6 p.m. She also co-anchors the Friday edition of the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts and serves as anchor/reporter for WCVB-TV’s major news coverage. She has also co-anchored the EyeOpener newscast. Brunner first joined the station in September 1993 as a reporter and occasional anchor for WCVB’s nightly newsmagazine, Chronicle. At that time, Boston Magazine named her the Best Newcomer to the Boston media market in August 1994.

She began her broadcasting career in 1985 at WCIA–TV in Champaign, Ill., where she worked as a weather anchor for the weekend and noon newscasts, and hosted a morning show featuring issues and organizations that served the community.

Brunner joined WCVB after working as director of community relations, morning news anchor and reporter and producer of a public affairs feature for WTVT–TV, the CBS affiliate in Tampa, Florida. She also hosted WTVT’s “Tampa Bay’s Talking,” as well as numerous prime–time specials.

An award-winning journalist, Brunner was recently recognized with a Gracie Award from American Women in Radio and Television. In 1995, Brunner received a New England Emmy for a Chronicle program, “Cape Cod by Air.” She has also been honored for her community work, including a 1991 Communications Achievement Award from the American Women in Radio and Television.

Over the years, Brunner has been actively involved with the March of Dimes “WalkAmerica,” the American Heart Association’s “Heart Walk” and the Berkshire Hills Music Academy for Children With Williams Syndrome, the Home for Little Wanderers, as well as many other local charities. She currently serves as executive vice president of AWRT/New England, the local chapter of American Women in Radio and Television.

Born in Connecticut, Brunner was raised in Hawaii and Illinois. She received a bachelor of music degree from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wis. She resides in a Boston suburb.
