SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- Police arrested a man Monday evening who they said is connected with a sex assault near the Tufts University campus.
Man Arrested In Connection With AssaultSomerville police arrested Michael K. Mahoney, 25, charging him with aggravated rape and kidnapping in connection with the assault on early Sunday morning.Police received an assault report just before 6 a.m. from a woman walking near College Avenue and Dearborn Road. The woman told police a man forced her behind a nearby house where the alleged assault occurred.Investigators said the victim provided detailed information that led to an arrest."(The victim) is hanging in there. We have been in contact with her and informed her that he is under arrest. She is very relieved," Somerville police Detective Martha Costa said.Mahoney is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Somerville District Court.Police are also investigating an attack in about the same area on June 28. Investigators said it was too early to determine whether the incidents are connected.In the June incident, the victim said she was jogging at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning when someone grabbed from behind near Powder House Circle at the edge of the Tufts campus.
