BOSTON -- Bidding for low-numbered Cape and Islands license plates begins this week, the Massachusetts Registrar of Motor Vehicles announced Monday.

Bidding for plates 1-999 will run from Tuesday through Aug. 1. All bids will be accepted online by clicking here.

Proceeds from the online auction will benefit several nonprofit organizations that promote tourism and economic development Cape-wide.

So far, the Cape and Island license plates have helped to raise more than $13 million, officials said.
