BOSTON -- The Citgo sign near Fenway park may be as famous in Boston as Fenway itself, but one city councilor wants to change the well-known sign.Discuss: Should Citgo Sign Be Changed?NewsCenter 5's David Boeri reported that Jerry McDermott wants to replace the familiar red triangle with an American flag in order to get back at Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for calling President George W. Bush "the Devil," in a United Nations speech this week. Chavez also said the president is "an alcoholic and a sick man.""At minimum, what I would like to see is Hugo Chavez apologize for his comments he made at the United Nations. He owes the president and this country an apology," said McDermott.Citgo is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Venezuela."If we don't take that structure down and replace it with something else, I would like to see the lights go out, maybe you put a black cloth over it until we get an apology from Hugo Chavez," said McDermott.A hearing about the sign's future has been scheduled for October.
