The safety record of the Fung Wah Transportation Inc. is coming into question Wednesday after 34 people were injured when a New York-to-Boston bus rolled over in Auburn.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that the accident happened at about 2 p.m. Tuesday on an off-ramp from Interstate 290 to Route 12.

"Everyone noticed that we were going too fast. There was one scream and then another scream," one passenger said.

The injured passengers were treated at UMass Medical Center and Worcester Medical Center for mostly minor injuries.

"It was pretty scary," another passenger said.

The bus driver, Chuandai Chen, 44, was cited for speeding. The bus company has had a number of problems in the past.

In August 2005, a Fung Wah bus traveling from Boston to New York caught fire on Interstate 91 in Meriden, Conn. The passengers all got out safely, but within minutes the bus was entirely engulfed in flames.

In April, the U.S. Department of Transportation fined the bus company about $13,000 for excessive speeds.

The bus company offers one-way tickets for $15. It is popular among college students and other travelers seeking alternatives to more expensive bus lines.
