2006 MEDFIELD, Mass. -- Some dog lovers in Medfield are outraged by town officials' threats to seize and potentially euthanize any dog that is not licensed.Starting on Sept. 15, the town will seize all unlicensed dogs. The owner of the unlicensed dog will have 10 days to pay for a license. If the owner refuses and no one is willing to adopt the animal, the dog could be put down. Officials said they're cracking down on six dog owners who have failed to license their dogs.Town officials told the Boston Herald that they've tried writing letters, making calls and pleading with residents to license their dogs, but nothing has worked so far. Town officials said this is a necessary step to make sure all dogs in the town are vaccinated for rabies. But the Medfield police chief told NewsCenter 5 that no dog will be put down in Medfield, despite the policy.
