FAIRHAVEN, Mass. -- Fairhaven school officials are under fire after an alleged hazing incident at a summer football camp. The district attorney's office is investigating an alleged incident. The Fairhaven High School principal would not confirm what allegedly took place."We are investigating our athletic Code of Conduct and how that applies to student athletes who attended this camp. That's exactly what we're doing," said Fairhaven High School Principal Jean Cote.Despite calling a news conference, NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported, Fairhaven's High School principal revealed little information and refused to confirm that an alleged hazing incident by members of the football team was the focus of his investigation.Concerned about protecting students' privacy, Cote did say that 15 players when to a private camp held every summer at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod, where an incident is alleged to have happened.A source who said he has knowledge of the incident told NewsCenter 5 that four seniors on the team with a history of hazing behavior dragged a junior player into a room and put Icy Hot on his groin. The source said the behavior went downhill from there."There were some allegations made about things that happened at the camp on Otis Air Base and we are investigating," the first assistant in the Barnstable District Attorney's office told NewsCenter 5 in a telephone interview."He's fine. He's OK," the alleged victim's mother said. "I don't want to discuss it. I think at some point we have to say something, but I really don't want to go into any detail at this time."Cote responded to questions about the sudden resignation of head football coach Chris Foster. Cote said he resigned for unrelated, personal reasons."I know you and again, I understand that you may have a right to connect the dots. I can't do that, nor will I do that," Cote said.Foster released his own statement Wednesday afternoon that said: "I offered my resignation for reasons that are my own. I feel that my coaching staff and I did everything proper in terms of reporting to the administration the alleged incident that may have taken place."Cote said no player has yet been removed from the team. A meeting was scheduled fro Wednesday night at the high school so that team members and their parents can meet the new interim coach and his staff. For reasons of confidentiality, the principal said he will not reveal anything about his investigation to the parents.
