Women Accused Of Cutting At McDonald's Run Over

Woman Accused Pair Of Cutting In Line

POSTED: 12:05 pm EDT August 15, 2006

Police in Athens-Clarke County, Ga., said a disgruntled McDonald's customer ran into two other customers with her car after a dispute over who was next in line to order breakfast.

Police said 34-year-old Melinda Ann Thomas and 51-year-old Linda Ann Thomas were standing in a crowded line about 8:30 a.m. Saturday as they waited to order breakfast. A cashier opened a new line and they stepped to the front of it -- a move that angered at least one customer waiting for her chance to order. Witnesses said she started yelling and threatened to kill the women.

Witnesses told police the woman left the restaurant before the Thomases and stayed in the parking lot, sitting in her dark blue Jeep Cherokee.

As the Thomases made their way to their car, witnesses said the woman pulled out of her parking space, backed up and then sped toward the ladies -- striking them both with the passenger side of the Jeep. The report said neither woman was injured severely.

"The driver of the Jeep was making a conscious effort to hit the victims," Athens-Clarke police Lt. Mike McKeel told The Athens Banner-Herald.

Police have a suspect in the case.

"We talked to the suspect in this case and we continue to investigate," McKeel said. "There are no charges at this point." He said the suspect is an Athens resident. "She's not in custody, but we have talked to her and she is cooperating," McKeel told the paper. "We are trying to talk to some more people to see if we can't get to the bottom of this thing."

Police had earlier said they were looking for a white female suspect in her mid-20s.

The suspect faces charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, the paper reported.

Police want anyone who witnessed the alleged assault or has information about it to call Det. Jeff Clark at (706) 613-3888, extension 303.
