This week's storms are long gone, but the damage remains, and there were still some areas that were without power Friday morning.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that near a National Grid power substation on Sumner Street in Stoughton, there were power lines being held up by rope after trees crashed into lines across the area, dragging them down and cutting power to thousands of customers.

By early Friday, more than 400 customers were still without electricity even though crews worked through the night to restore service.

In a 10-minute period, two transformers went out and mobile units had to be brought in to restore power in Easton and Stoughton. Businesses owners and residents who were left in the dark Thursday night tried to cope as best they could. Some cooked by fire on backyard grills. One girl said the worst part of it all was not being able to take a shower.

There was still a lot of cleaning up to be done in neighborhoods across the South Shore region.

"I couldn't even hazard a guess on how many trees went down, but over two dozen. In the back it's hard to move around," one man said.

Temperatures dropped by about 20 degrees across the region Thursday night as a cold front moved in from the Great Lakes.

Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency spokesman Peter Judge says there were no reported heat-related deaths during the stretch of hot weather.
