BOSTON -- Two outspoken former Turnpike Authority Board members spoke out Tuesday after a portion of the Interstate 90 tunnel roof fell onto a car, killing a woman.

NewsCenter 5's Anthony Everett reported that Christy Mihos and Jordan Levy pointed fingers Tuesday at what they claim are years of a lack of accountability and full disclosure when it comes to the Big Dig.

"This is my worst nightmare come true," Mihos said.

Mihos and Levy were outspoken members of the board and said they waved red flags about the $15 billion Big Dig project and how poorly it was managed. Mihos, now an independent candidate for governor, said he wouldn't let his loved ones use the tunnels.

"I'll go through it myself, but I'll never take my family through those tunnels. Never," he said.

Mihos has been calling for an independent counsel with subpoena powers to be appointed to investigate the management of the turnpike and the Big Dig contractors.

"Back three years ago, I called for the governor to suspend the entire Turnpike group, bring in his own people and get control of the documents, Mihos said.

Jordan Levy, who left the turnpike board last month, points to the chief contractor Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff.

"It's about time we nail the people that were responsible for the project that we paid to do the job, to do the oversight, to do the designs and to insure the public would be safe," Levy said.

Mihos said he suspects the work was rushed on the I-90 tunnel to open it amidst much fanfare.

"Something has got too be done. The governor has got to govern and at this point and take control of the commonwealth's project," Mihos said.

Mihos said no one can say that the tunnel accident is an isolated incident and shrug it off as he alleged officials have done in the past.
