King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham will now allow West Point officials to honor two students at this weekend's graduation.

NewsCenter 5's Sean Kelly reported Wednesday that earlier this week, seniors Jeffrey Chin and William Small were told that the Army would not be welcomed to the high school's awards night. The school cited a school policy of allowing only local groups to attend the ceremony.

"I felt like that was a very appropriate way to really clean this thing up. I mean, it's unfortunate it got so much out of hand," Small said.

The high school and administrators heard complaints and demands from people upset that Chin and Small would not get the traditional West Point honor.

"It makes me feel good that people care about West Point. They care about the military, and they care about young people like myself making the decision to serve their country," Small said.

Small said he was grateful for the resolution.

"I stand by my word that I have everything to owe to this school because they provided the programs and the academics that has gotten me to where I am going to be," Small said.

Six members of the school's graduating class who will enter the military upon graduation will be recognized on graduation day.

"We apologize to those who have been offended. As representatives of the school district, the high school principal and the superintendent of school were not making either an anti-military statement or a political statement," the school said in a statement late Wednesday.
