Visitors to local campgrounds said they are being driven away by caterpillars.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that at the Bay View Campground in Bourne, the creepy-crawlers could be found on picnic tables, in juice cups, on lawn chairs and in tents.

"They're all over the food, now we have to throw it all away," said camper Jessica Collin.

Some vacationers said the caterpillars have made them cut their trips short.

"They're everywhere. In my hair, clothes, the awning -- you name it. Everywhere," said camper Pamela Michaud.

Descending from trees on silk threads, the caterpillars have covered everything in a sticky web. But since the infestation is natural, campers cannot get a reimbursement if they leave early.

"We've had a lot of people come and complain about it. We just say, 'Sorry, it is Mother Nature and, yeah, it is pretty disgusting and everyone else is dealing with it on the Cape,'" said campground manager Mareana Ricci.

"I will never ever forget this Memorial Day weekend. It has been horrible," said camper Melissa Richard.
