The arrest came before police found the body of 19-year-old Jonathan Rizzo in some woods in Abington, Mass. Rizzo had been missing since Friday.

Police in Vermont arrested Gary L. Sampson, 41, of Tamsworth, N.H., after an alleged carjacking and home break-in. District Attorney Michael Sullivan said that warrants would be sought charging Sampson with two counts of murder, one for the killing of Rizzo and another for the killing of Philip McCloskey, a Marshfield man.

Sullivan said that New Hampshire authorities would also likely issue a warrant for the killing of Robert Whitney, 58, of Concord, N.H., whose body was found in a home on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, N.H. Rizzo's car was found at the New Hampshire house.

Sullivan said that Rizzo was the apparent victim of a carjacking. He apparently had no relationship to either of the other men killed.

Sampson was arrested in West Bridgewater, Vt., after he allegedly carjacked a vehicle. The driver of that car escaped unharmed. Sullivan said that the suspect then broke into a home, and police arrested Sampson shortly after.

"Three innocent victims suffered as a result of Sampson's violent behavior," Sullivan said.

Sullivan would not say how Rizzo or Whitney died. He said that Vermont police gave Massachusetts officials information that led them to Rizzo's body.

At the New Hampshire scene, police recovered Rizzo's Volkswagen Jetta. Rizzo, a George Washington University student, was home for the summer and was last seen Friday night after leaving the Weathervane restaurant in Plymouth, Mass., where he worked.

McCloskey, 69, was killed last Thursday after being stabbed to death. His body was found in a wooded area of Marshfield partially covered with leaves. McCloskey was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

Whitney was a contractor and former Concord, N.H., city councilor.
