Newton police were searching Monday for the man who robbed a CVS Pharmacy on Needham Street over the weekend.

Police said that a man walked into the store at 275 Needham St. at about 3:40 p.m., approached a pharmacist and displayed a handgun in his waistband. The man demanded a variety of drugs including oxycondine, Percocet, methadone, and Fentanyl patches and then fled the store.

"Very casually, he displayed a handgun, we believe it was a handgun, in his waistband, and he demanded a variety of different drugs," Newton Police Department Lt. Bruce Apotheker said.

The man was described as a white male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches, with dark hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and gray hat.

"He left the store on foot, and we haven't seen him since," Apotheker said.

Police believe that the same man robbed a CVS Pharmacy in Brookline last month, in which a large amount of narcotics was stolen. In that incident, the man claimed to have a gun, though none was shown.

"He is probably a user of the drugs, and someone who is a user, they have no fear. They need their fix, and they are going to get (it) anyway they can," Apotheker said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Newton Police Department at (617) 796-2104.
