Mother, Baby Found Dead In Home

Police Want To Talk To Husband, Father

Police are investigating an apparent double homicide in Hopkinton after a mother and her 9-month-old baby were found shot to death in their bed Sunday.

NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson reported that Rachel Entwistle, 27, and her daughter, Lillian, were found tucked beneath the covers of a bed in their home. Police said a single bullet killed them both.

Rachel Entwistle was last heard from on Thursday when she had a conversation with a relative. Nobody answered the door Saturday night when invited guests arrived at the home. Concerned, relatives later called the Hopkinton police to conduct a welfare check on the family Sunday. The bodies were found in the master bedroom.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and time of death.

"It appears to be, at least, one gunshot to the torsos of both. But there was very little, if any, blood. Again, until we have an autopsy, we are not certain for the reason for that," Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley said.

The husband and father, Neil Entwistle, was said to be traveling this weekend. Police said they want to talk to him.

"I'm not going to label anybody a suspect at this time," Coakley said.

There was no signs of forced entry at the home, police said.

"This was not a random attack. Obviously, we are interested in talking to anyone who may have information about this. We have been in the process of locating Neil Entwistle," Coakley said.

Coakley said there were no known problems between the couple.

"It is kind of scary considering I live in the neighborhood next door -- knowing there was a murder nearby freaks you out," said one Hopkinton resident.

"There was no forced entry. There is no reason to believe the residents of the neighborhood or community should be in fear of a repetition of this," Hopkinton Police Chief Thomas Irvin said.

The family moved to Hopkinton 10 days ago from southeastern Massachusetts. Rachel Entwistle previously worked as a teacher, but was currently unemployed. Neil Entwistle, also unemployed, has a background in information technology.
