A veteran Maynard High School teacher was held on $50,000 bail on charges he sexually assaulted a male student over a three-year period.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that Joseph Magno has been charged in one case, but now, more abuse allegations may be surfacing. The Middlesex County prosecutor said numerous other alleged victims have come forward.

Magno has been hospitalized since his arrest for heart and other issues.

"The victim today is resolute, determined and will testify at the trial about what the defendant did to him," prosecutor Michael Chinman said.

The prosecutor said each day brings calls from more former students who say Magno abused them.

"I have supplied numerous written statements from those past victims to the defendant's lawyer," Chinman said.

For decades, Magno ran the school's radio station. All of the alleged victims were members involved in that program.

"Not a word of this has ever been said to anybody. Now you are supposed to believe all of it because (Chinman) said so? And, by the way, I don’t know who these people are so I can question them," defense attorney Don DeMayo said.

One of the alleged victims is a Maynard police officer.

"I don’t know anything about them. I don't know anything about them," DeMayo said.

If Magno posts bail, he must wear an electronic monitoring device and be confined to his home. He was also ordered to stay away from anyone under the age of 18 and Maynard High School.
