An apparent Internet romance has police searching for a 27-year-old Massachusetts man and a 14-year-old California girl. Her parents reported her missing earlier this month.

NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga reported that police believe the pair is in Massachusetts.

Police said Jason Iannazzi, of Watertown, Mass., met Cheynne DeCicco, of Brea, Calif., in an Internet chat room in September. They said he originally posed as a person much closer in age to DeCicco, who is a freshman in high school.

"We are very concerned. We have a 27-year-old male from Watertown that met this girl from California -- 14 years old -- sometime in September. They had a meeting out in California in October. Now, we have learned that she has been missing since Dec. 5," Watertown police Chief Edward Deveau said.

Iannazzi, who is unemployed, lives with his parents on Everett Avenue in Watertown. Police said that they think the couple has traveled across the country together back to Massachusetts.

"We have reason to believe that they are in the greater Boston area and probably staying in a low-priced hotel," Deveau said.

Iannazzi has actually called police several times during the last three days, saying he has been Christmas shopping. DeCicco has also called police saying she was in Tennessee.

"I don't believe her parents were aware. Her friends out in California were aware that she was meeting somebody. From when they first met, we don't think she knew how old he was," Deveau said.

A warrant has been issued for Iannazzi's arrest for unspecified crimes in California. Anyone who has seen the couple is asked to call Watertown police.
