BOSTON -- Baseball's gotten so expensive in Boston that one city councilor wants to bring a new team to the city. John Tobin, who represents the city's West Roxbury section, said it may be time to bring another ball club to Boston. NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson reported that Tobin, a big baseball fan, is concerned that his generation's passion for baseball won't be passed along to younger fans because of high ticket prices for Red Sox games. So, now he's talking about providing an alternative -- a minor league team.Although opening day is still months away, over the weekend, Red Sox fans lined up in wintry weather outside Fenway Park, hoping to get tickets to spring games. With limited seats and the highest major league ticket prices in the country, however, their chances of getting sought-after tickets are limited. It's tough for fans who want to bring an entire family to a game.Tobin said a minor league team may be the answer for baseball lovers. The Brockton Rox team offers tickets that cost about the same as the price of a movie and a hot dog, and parking costs under $5. A median Sox ticket costs between $45 and $95 -- double the league average. Add a hot dog at $3.75 and parking fees between $10 and $30 and a Sox game is out-of-reach for many fans.Tobin has proposed talking to the Canadian-American League, which is considering expanding. The league, founded in 1936, was resurrected in 2004. Existing Can-Am teams include the Brockton Rox, the North Shore Spirit in Lynn, the Worcester Tornadoes, and the Nashua (N.H.) Pride.Any proposal would require a 4,500-seat stadium.Discuss
