DA To Determine If Shooting Is Murder-Suicide

NORTH READING, Mass. -- Police are on the scene of what is being described by officials as a murder-suicide in North Reading Thursday night.NewsCenter 5's Diolinda Vaz reported that police were called to the Country Club Road residence after a neighbor reported hearing screams and four gunshots coming from the home. When police arrived at the scene, they encountered a 72-year-old man outside. After a brief conversation, the man went back inside the house. A fifth gunshot was then fired.The SWAT team was brought in to clear the house and evacuate the area.Police found two people, a woman in her 60s and the 72-year-old man, dead inside the home."In the bedroom, lying, apparently a victim of several gunshot wounds, was a female. We know her to be approximately 65-years-old. In the kitchen on the floor, also apparently the victim of a suicide, was a male we know now to be approximately 72-years-old who was her husband," said Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley.Police said they have been called to the home once before.
