A young Marine with ties to Franklin and Canton was laid to rest Monday.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that Shayne Cabino, 19, died after a roadside bombing in Fallujah earlier this month. He had only been in Iraq for a few months.

"Shayne did not come home draped just in a flag. He came home draped in the arms of God, and he is now raised high because God knows Shayne. He has seen his sacrifice," the Rev. John Sullivan told mourners gathered at Franklin's St. John Episcopal Church Monday.

Cabino graduated from Canton High School in 2003.

"My brother was proud to be a Marine. No matter how hard anyone tried to talk him out of it, he was the first to say, 'Yes, I am a Marine," said Cabino's brother, Justin.

When he left home for Iraq a few months ago, most of his family focused on a coming home party, not a funeral.

"I will remember the hero he turned into. I will see you in heaven my friend, my sweetheart, my brother. I want to pray for the other soldiers who remain out there, let's pray for them," said Cabino's sister, Brandy.

So many people came to pay their respects that the line of cars in Cabino's funeral procession stretched for a couple of miles.

"God bless you, Shayne, and thanks for keeping us safe," said Sullivan.
