NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that on Monday, Capt. John Maloney's family spoke out about his life, the dangers of his mission and their loss.

"I have no anger, but it is a shock," said mother Lydia Maloney.

Lydia Maloney has three sons in the Marine Corps.

"It is something you hope would never happen to our family. But it is a reality I have tried to face throughout the careers of my sons," she said.

John Maloney leaves behind his wife, Michelle, and two children, McKenna, 1, and Nathaniel, 6.

"He thought very highly of (his family). He would do anything for them and I know he is going to be protecting them from where he is now," said John Maloney's brother, Justin Clark.

John Maloney, a 1986 Chicopee High School graduate, will be honored in his hometown later in the week.
