BOSTON -- There was another dangerous call on the water Tuesday night, this time in Boston's Dorchester Bay, where a pregnant woman who was riding a jet ski was saved after a mishap. The rescue followed several recent drownings.
Newscenter 5s Mary Saladna reported that Ingrid Valles, 29, was in over her head when she and a friend fell off their jet ski in 3 feet of water. Valles can't swim and she is four months pregnant."They were riding a jet ski, they fell off the jet ski and it was pretty choppy, windy out there today. The jet ski got away from them. They weren't able to reboard it, and they just didn't have the strength, or didn't want to swim back to shore," State Police officer John Nunes said.
"She going slow, but in the middle, in the water, she just fell down," her sister Maria Vargas said, translating for Valles. "Oh my goodness, she hug me and she said how scared she is. She's my sister, she praying and she don't know how to swim."Valles and her friend, Luis, 20, waited on a sandbar for about 30 minutes until police were able to rescue them."They were both frightened, a little cold. People need to remember that the water temperature is still 55 degrees here in the harbor, so if you go overboard, you're going to get cold real quick," Nunes said. Both Valles and her friend were wearing life jackets. Authorities are urging boaters and swimmers to take all appropriate precautions when out in the water.
