BOSTON -- A dog with a failing heart needs your help, veterinarians at Angell Animal Medical Center said Monday.Nine-week old Daisy and her siblings were brought to the MSPCA Adoption Center in Brockton, Mass., as part of an unwanted litter. Although all of her siblings found new homes, Daisy's medical exam uncovered a troubling defect in her heart. The staff at Angell discovered that a fetal shunt never closed at birth. Now, she needs surgery to repair it.Without the surgery, Daisy will die from congestive heart failure within six months, officials said. If her condition is corrected, however, Daisy is expected to lead a normal, healthy life. The cost of surgery is estimated at between $2,000 and $4,000, depending on the extent of the damage. The MSPCA is asking the public to help cover the cost of Daisy's surgery.
