The pressure is mounting to bring Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling to Washington to talk about steroids in Major League Baseball.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that on Wednesday, Congress subpoenaed Schilling and six other current and former baseball players.

Schilling, along with stars like Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Jose Canseco have been ordered to appear before a House Government Reform Committee next week. So far, only Canseco said he would testify.

"These were a group that had spoken out about steroid use in the past, but McGwire has not talked about steroid use. The only one who has really talked about steroid use is Canseco in his book," said legal analyst Roger Cossack.

Seven major league baseball players, including Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, have been subpoenaed to testify before a Congressional committee on steroid use. MLB says they shouldn't have to. What do you think?
Baseball officials promised a fight. Calling it violation of First Amendment privacy rights, officials said the government committee has no jurisdiction over issues involving controlled substances or public health. But committee Chairman Henry Waxman disagreed.

"Baseball should be accountable. It should be ethical. It should meet standards as an important enterprise in this country that has enormous impact on our population," said Waxman.

If the players do not testify, the committee can file for a contempt of Congress citation.

The meeting in question is scheduled for March 17.
