REVERE, Mass. -- State and Revere police asked for the public's help Wednesday in finding the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run accident this past weekend.
NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga reported that Richard Christie, 51, was killed in the crash Sunday night in Revere. Police believe that Christy was run down by someone driving a white van that may have had a ladder or ladder rack on the roof.Christie was walking home from a Christmas party when he was struck while crossing the American Legion Highway. The vehicle that hit Christie sped away. The hit-and-run-driver remained at large. Police said that at least one witness and maybe others actually saw the van stop briefly before leaving the scene of the accident."We are asking anyone who may have seen a white van in that area of American Legion Highway on Sunday evening operating erratically or damaged to contact the police with any information," Revere Police Department Capt. Michael Murphy said.Murphy said that there was one witness who investigators have spoken with.Christie, the owner of an East Boston body shop, was survived by his wife, daughter and three grandchildren. He will be laid to rest Thursday."Nobody deserves to die by the side of the road alone. And that's something we have to live with. My daughter is devastated, and every night we go to be and that's what we think," said Christie's wife, Doreen Christie.
