BOSTON -- A missing autistic teen was found Monday evening, four days after he vanished from his home in Millis, Mass.
NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that Andrew Grant, 15, was suffering from severe dehydration and is now hospitalized at Children's Hospital.
The teen is waking up in the hospital on his 15th birthday, alive and well, much to the relief of his family.
Grant was found just as it was getting dark, about 7:45 p.m. Monday, lying on the ground in a heavily wooded area of Norfolk, Mass., about 3 miles from his grandparent's home in Millis. He was semi-conscious. Emergency crews used Med-Flight helicopters to transport him to Boston.
"They got intravenous in him and everything. He's a little emaciated, scratched up, mosquito bites ... but alive and kicking," said his relieved grandfather, Dick Grant.
A woman's call to police led them to Lake Street in neighborhing Norfolk and they used thermal imaging equipment to try to locate the boy in the woods. Firefighters from three towns also conducted a line search.
"The line search had been under way for no longer than 3 to 5 minutes when the teen came across them. He was semi-conscious, severely dehydrated, and I don't have any other injuries," said fire chief Cole Bushnell.
Grant had wandered away from his home last Thursday, sparking a search that involved hundreds of volunteers and even dive teams that searched the nearby Charles River.
Hospital officials said Grant was in good condition Tuesday morning.
