NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that police are looking for the baby's father, Jose Lizama, 28, in connection with the disappearance.

The baby, 19-day-old Michael Stephen Rauda, was allegedly snatched from his mother, Alyana Rauda, 19, on the corner of Prescott and Saratoga Streets in East Boston at about 8:30 a.m. Monday. According to police, the baby's mother was on her way to East Boston District Court to seek a restraining order against Lizama.

"(The mother) was accompanied by two female friends when an automobile pulled up. The driver of the car, who was also the father of the child, a 19-day-old boy, (Lizama) got out of the car, grabbed the child from a car seat that the woman, the mother, was carrying and they struggled for a moment, and she received slight abrasions on her right forearm, and he was able to take the child and hand it off to the man who was seated in the car," said Boston Police Sgt. Arthur McCarthy.

Lizama is described as a Hispanic male with black hair, about 5 feet 5 inches, wearing a black shirt and beige pants. He also goes by the name Jose Granados. Police said he may be armed. An unidentified Hispanic man with short hair may also be in the car.

Police said Lizama recently threatened the baby's mother.

"She and the father of the child had an argument. I'm not sure about the details of the argument, but he did threaten her by saying if she went to the police he was going to cause physical harm to the child and to her," said McCarthy.

Authorities are looking for a freshly-painted 1998 White Ford Crown Victoria with a license plate of 519-2VR. The car may have some lettering on the side. They said there was also information that cars may have been switched and they are also looking for a red, 1994 Subaru SVX with a license plate of 15DS12.

Lizama is from El Salvador, and police are concerned that he may try to flee the country.

Boston Police are asking that anyone with any information contact them at (617) 343-4220.
