Quadriplegic Man Beaten To Death In Texas

Woman Sexually Assaulted

POSTED: 11:55 am EDT July 19, 2004

Police in San Antonio are looking for two more suspects believed to have beaten a quadriplegic man to death early Saturday.

They've already charged a 26-year-old man with capital murder in the case.

Larry Salazar, the man charged with capital murder, told police that he and two other people went looking for drugs at an apartment where a wheelchair-bound man was beaten to death and a woman was repeatedly sexually assaulted.

According to a San Antonio police affidavit, Salazar admitted to detectives that he hit someone inside the apartment with a stick and also drove the getaway car used to flee the scene following the attack early Saturday morning.

Police said three men stormed into the unit, where six people were beaten with clubs, knives and a screwdriver.

When police arrived at the ransacked apartment, they found the body of the 47-year-old paralyzed man on a bed with a pillow over his battered face. Jeffrey Lee Robinson, a quadriplegic, died of blunt trauma to the head.

Treviño said a woman in the apartment was raped by the men.

Salazar also told police he and the two men took a TV, a microwave and a stereo. The other two men remain at large.

Neighbors of the victims wonder why the wheelchair-bound man was the target of a violent crime.

"I never heard anyone said that they were going to hurt Jeff," said Norman Bernard, a friend of the victim. "He was good people. Very good people."

Investigators aren't sure if the victims knew their attackers, but they don't believe the attack was random.

"We don't believe they were just driving down the street and picked this one particular place out," said San Antonio police spokesman Sgt. Gabe Treviño. "We believe that they meant to go to the particular apartment."
