Singer Bobby Brown appeared before a family court judge Friday in Massachusetts, a day after he paid $63,500 in back child support to get out of jail.

NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga reported that Brown left the court Thursday and took his two children out to dinner. He arrived at the court promptly at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

According to court records, in 1994, Brown was worth $5 million, but a decade later, the husband of singer Whitney Houston claims he is unemployed and broke.

"My children had to know, so, and they know their father, and they know their father loves them a lot and that's something you don't see on TV. That is something in my heart," said Brown.

What was seen on television was Brown in handcuffs Wednesday being taken to jail for nonsupport of his 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter.

Brown, who grew up in Roxbury, was released late Thursday, after coming up with checks totaling $63,500.

"It was just like I said, a misunderstanding on my behalf and the people who worked for me at the time. They don't work for me any longer, and now things will be better and things will be, the checks will get there a lot sooner than later," said Brown.

Brown was given 90 days to meet other court requirements, including setting up college funds and taking out a $500,000 life insurance policy with his children as beneficiaries.

Brown said he has a new album and a movie role lined up -- enough to keep his children's finances in order. If he fails to meet the court requirements, he will be back in court in June.

Brown is also due in a Georgia court in May to face charges of physically abusing Houston.
