NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that Linda Rayburn and her son, Michael Barry, were killed by her husband, David Rayburn, who then committed suicide. The woman's daughter discovered the bodies Tuesday night at 4 Saugus Avenue.

"Last evening, Feb. 3 around 8 p.m., we received a call from a 21-year-old woman reporting that she found her family members dead in the family home," Saugus Police Department Chief James MacKay said. "They found, in her bedroom, on her bed, a 44-year-old woman who appeared to have had severe head trauma. They also found, in an adjacent bedroom on his bed, her son, 23 years old, on the bed with severe head trauma. They found, in the basement of the family home, a 34-year-old male, who had hung himself from the rafters."

A police source said that the murder weapon, a hammer, and a suicide note were recovered.

"I am not able to get into what was written on the note, but a note had been left," MacKay said.

Officials said that the murders probably took place sometime Monday evening. The family had only lived in the home for a few months. Neighbors said that they were a quiet family.
