A Lowel, Mass., man was arrested Friday in connection with the murders of a Woburn mother and her young daughter.

Michael Bizanowicz, 41, was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley said. She said Bizanowicz was linked to the slayings by DNA evidence matched through the state's criminal offender database.

On Jan. 7, the bodies of Joanne Presti, 34, and her 12-year-old daughter, Alyssa, were found in their Totman Drive home. Investigators said that they were stabbed to death. Presti's 2 1/2-year-old son was found unharmed in the apartment.

Prosecutors say Bizanowicz sexually assaulted Presti, before killing her and her daughter.

Presti and her daughter were buried Thursday.

Coakley said Bizanowicz was classified as a level-3 sex offender, who is someone considered at high risk to commit another crime.

It was not immediately clear if Bizanowicz knew the victims.
