WORCESTER, Mass. -- The manhunt continues for a suspect who allegedly shot two people inside a Worcester home improvement store Monday afternoon. Police now say they may have spotted his truck in New Hampshire, but there's no sign of its owner.
NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that police are looking for Mark Anthony LeBreton, 38, of Auburn, Mass., New Hampshire police said that Lebreton's pickup truck may have been spotted in Lincoln, N.H., in the White Mountains, not far from North Conway, N.H.LeBreton is being sought in connection with Monday's shooting in which two men were targeted at the Lowe's home improvement store at 533 Lincoln St. about 4:30 p.m. Monday.A store employee told the Telegram and Gazette of Worcester that Steve Collins, a contractor, was shot in the neck, and identified the other victim as a store employee named Jim Walling. Both men were taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Collins was reported in critical condition Tuesday morning.Witnesses said a man walked into the store late Monday afternoon and started shooting."The lady said, 'Hey, he's got a gun,' and I said, 'Uh oh,' and people ducked and ran and went this way and he was at that end," said witness Tom Martin."The weapon used at Lowe's was a semiautomatic pistol," said Worcester police Sgt. Gary Quitadamo.LeBreton, also a contractor, is described as being 6 feet, 1 inch tall, about 200 pounds, with blue eyes and graying brown hair. His truck was described as a white Chevrolet Silverado with Massachusetts license plates and the name of his contracting firm, "LeBreton and Sons," on the side doors.According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, LeBreton's brother, Kevin, is an Oxford, Mass., police officer and he called Auburn police Monday before the shootings to warn them.Police said they believe LeBreton owns an AK-47 assault rifle. Other sources said he also owns a hunting rifle with a scope, has access to police scanners and also owns a bulletproof vest. They said he may have a hit list as well.Overnight, police surrounded LeBreton's street in Auburn and searched his friends' homes. He was a member of an Auburn gun club and often frequented the American Legion post there."Mark would help anybody. Mark was a great guy. It's kind of amazing. We're all distraught," said Karyn Chapman, a patron at the post.
