Search Continues For Missing Boy

LINCOLN, N.H. -- A desperate search for a missing 10-year-old Massachusetts boy continued in the White Mountains Wednesday.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported that search teams were joined by scores of volunteers in the search for Patric McCarthy, 10, near Loon Mountain in Lincoln, N.H.

"We're upbeat. We are giving it 100 percent, and that's the rule we are staying with at the present time. We'll evaluate everything on a daily basis," said New Hampshire Fish and Game Capt. Marty Garabedian.

McCarthy was last seen Monday afternoon playing near a condominium complex with his 7- and 13-year-old brothers. Police say there was some horse play involved, but no foul play.

"I think it was strictly a case of boys being boys. We're not reading into that anything substantial. They were playing between the two condo complexes," said Garabedian.

State police urge condo users to contact them if they saw anything out of the ordinary.

"If they saw anything that they felt was out of the ordinary or suspicious or strange, or even if they saw a young boy matching Patric's description, " said New Hampshire State Police Lt. John Scarinza.

Some of McCarthy's family assisted in Wednesday's search.

"Patric has enough skills to get through anything that he needs to get through. He is a very intelligent child. He's little, but he is not weak," said Patric's stepmother Margaret McCarthy.

Most of the 400 volunteers will be pulled from the search area as darkness falls Wednesday evening. The professional teams will continue the search throughout the night.
