Red Sox fans are gearing up for more edge-of-your-seat drama for the next several days. The Sox begin a best-of-seven series against the New York Yankees Wednesday for a spot in the World Series.

NewsCenter 5's David Boeri reported that the Red Sox have been here before -- playing for a spot in the World Series -- but Boston fans hope the ultimate outcome will not be the same. The fact that Boston is facing their rivals, the New York Yankees, only adds to the drama. Even travelers along the Massachusetts Turnpike are greeted with electronic signs encouraging them to "Cowboy Up" -- the new motto of the Red Sox.

As the Sox return to the East Coast and prepare for the seven game series, the only ball action was on the bocce court in Boston's North End.

"They did a good job," said Red Sox fan Pasquale Barone.

Pasquale Petrino came to the United States from Italy in 1938, and like most Bostonians, he has never seen the Red Sox take the big biscotti.

"We hope the team will win so everyone is happy. Makes for a big holiday," said Petrino.

Fans gathered Tuesday at the North End's La Dolce Vita restaurant on Hanover Street.

"(I have) a little angel with a baseball bat for good luck. We have a Yankees fan in our office and we took the papers in her cubicle today and stole her Yankees hat. We're holding it ransom," said Mary Ellen Silva.

One Sox fan from New York doesn't think history will come into play on the field in the series.

"Business matters to New York. History doesn't matter. Legacy doesn't matter. Destiny doesn't matter. Business is what matters. The boss is what matters. Those are the two factors this time. It's Pedro, not Al Nipper, and it's Clemens not the Babe," said fan J.C. Louis.
