BOSTON -- One person was killed and two others injured in a crash on Interstate 495 in Middleborough on Friday.

A pickup truck traveling northbound crossed the grass median and entered the southbound side of the highway near Route 18 and exit 5 at about 9:20 a.m., where it struck a sport utility vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The driver of the pickup truck, a Massachusetts man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the SUV and his female passenger, both from Connecticut, suffered serious injuries.

One surviving victim was transported to an area hospital by a medical helicopter. The other victim was taken by ambulance. The victims' names have not been released.

The southbound side of the highway remained closed as officials investigate the crash.
