A lighting strike injured a woman in Wakefield and damaged a home and cemetery building in Boston on Wednesday as showers and thunderstorms moved across the state.

Jo-Ann Frechette was ironing at 28 Bryant St. at 7:15 a.m. when lightning struck near her home and traveled through wires.

"I don't really know what happened. I know I touched the iron, and then I just landed," Jo-Ann Frechette said. "It was so painful. I just felt a zolt and I flew. It felt like something shot through my arm and up into my neck, my face and my head."

Frechette said she heard the phone ring, and was able to push the redial button, which returned the call to her husband's phone.

"It was him, and I said, 'I am not good,'" she said. "I remember getting thrown and hearing the phone."

"She said she came off the rug 5 to 6 feet," her husband, Tony Frechette, said. "I called her, and she was still down the cellar on the floor. I was calling her to warn her."

Tony Frechette called 911. His wife was taken to Melrose Wakefield Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Jo-Ann Frechette said that she suffered some muscle damage and damage to her eardrum.

"It just feels like my whole body is asleep. There are no noises," she said. "They said because of the eardrum I lost my balance, but hopefully it will come back in 48 hours."

She said that she feels, "very lucky."

"It could have been my day," she said.

In Boston, a home at 58 Belfort St. in the city's Savin Hill area was struck at about 9:30 a.m., and lightning also struck the maintenance building at Forest Hills Cemetery. There were no injuries reported in either incident.
