Police Investigate Lawrence Restaurant Slaying

LAWRENCE, Mass. -- One person was killed and three others wounded in a bloody rampage inside a Lawrence restaurant early Monday morning, police said.Two men and two women were shot during a birthday party at the La Guira Restaurant at 205 Broadway about 12:45 a.m.

Witnesses said more than 100 people went running when the shots rang out in the restaurant."People were running in all directions from the place," one witness said.One man was killed and a woman is on life support, police said. Two other people -- a man and a woman -- were wounded. One of the women who was injured was an employee of the restaurant.Daisy Lopez said her niece was shot."She has one boy and one girl," Lopez said.The victims' names have not been released."We pursued a vehicle from the location that was fleeing at a high rate of speed. That vehicle was stopped in Lowell with assistance from state police and Lowell police, and we were able to stop that vehicle," Lawrence Police Chief John Romero said. Police identified the suspects as Johan Saint Clair, 30; and Fernando Guerrero, 27; both of Lawrence. Police said both men face murder charges.Police did not comment on a possible motive, but witnesses said the shooting may have been sparked by a jealous boyfriend.
