BOSTON --Hurricane Earl may be hitting the Cape and Islands hardest, but there are still effects of the storm inland. Cruise passengers and some air travelers had to make adjustments to their Labor Day weekend plans.

Travel itineraries in and out of Massachusetts are shifting with the wind. The Steamship Authority canceled all scheduled trips between Hyannis and Nantucket for Friday after its 12:30 p.m. ferry off Nantucket.

The Steamship's Authority's ferries are still running on a trip-by-trip basis between Woods Hole and Martha's Vineyard.

It was calm at Logan International Airport, where only Cape Air is altering flight plans.

"They called us and said after noontime they were going to be canceled," Cape Air passenger Barry Brown said.

"They're going to take most of their airplanes and fly them inland to Albany to get them out of harm's way because they're smaller aircraft," Massport CEO Tom Kinton said.

Cape Air, along with all major airlines, are waiving fees and allowing passengers to reschedule flights before or after the storm.

"A lot of our passengers have already rebooked, have been accommodated," Massport Director of Aviation Ed Freni said. "We had a heavy operation, as far as passengers are concerned, this morning."

At the port of Boston, Norwegian Spirit's cruise ship from Bermuda came in and was supposed to head back out Friday, but it's not leaving until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Amtrak suspended train service between New York and Boston until Saturday morning.
