Doctor Dies In Scooter Accident

No Citations For Driver Who Hit Man On Motorized Scooter

A local doctor died Friday after the motorized scooter he was riding on was struck by a truck in Brighton, according to police.

Authorities told Wicked Local Newton that when officers arrived to the area of 2609 Beacon Street in Brighton around 10 a.m., Andrew McAfee, 50, of Newton, was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

According to police reports, McAfee was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McAfee was a physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women’s and an instructor at Harvard Medical School.

The name of the driver who hit McAfee was not released.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation. No citations have been issued at this time.
