WCVB Expands 'EyeOpener' Newscasts 7 Days A Week

BOSTON -- WCVB-TV Channel 5 will air the first local newscast seven days a week with the addition of a half-hour to its Monday-Friday "EyeOpener" newscast from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and an hour to each of its Saturday and Sunday "EyeOpener" programs from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.The new schedule -- expanded by 4.5 hours per week -- will begin the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 7.The weekday morning newscast is co-anchored by Randy Price and Bianca de la Garza with Meteorologist J.C. Monahan and Traffic Reporter Dorothy Krysiuk, while the Saturday-Sunday "EyeOpener" has the anchor team of Shiba Russell and Steve Lacy with Meteorologist David Brown. “People are up earlier in the morning -- whether they are heading to the gym or off to work,” commented WCVB News Director Andrew Vrees. “Our viewers have told us they need our local news earlier, and that’s what we’re going to provide.” “For the past few years, WCVB, along with other ABC affiliates, has expressed a desire for an earlier start to the local news day,” said President and General Manager Bill Fine. “Recently, ABC devised a way to make this happen, so we are seizing the opportunity to bring our viewers the first local newscast each and every day.” On weekdays, the new early morning line-up will be ABC’s "America This Morning" from 4 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., NewsCenter 5's "EyeOpener" from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and "Good Morning America" from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the "EyeOpener" will air from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.
