A disturbing YouTube video that features a gang of thugs apparently attacking a car on a Chinatown street is creating a stir online, skyrocketing from about 20,000 views on Friday morning to more than 385,000 by midday.

The video, (SEE BELOW) dubbed "Boston Chinatown Batting Cage" shows a group of men surrounding a black sedan on Tyler Street, one of them jumping on to the hood of the car and all of the men screaming epithets.

One of the men follows the slow-moving vehicle up the street yelling at the driver to get out of the car, while another man encourages the driver to leave. At the end of the street, the driver gets out of the car and one of the men throws a traffic cone at him before the driver swings at him with a baseball bat.

The driver fends off several men with the baseball bat, striking several of them, before an alarm goes off and the driver flees back to the car, followed by as many as seven other men. He takes off with several of them clinging to the vehicle.

The man who took the video told NewsCenter 5 he didn't report the incident because he said scenes like this happen frequently in that area.

Boston police are aware of the video but said there's not much they can do with it because no victim has come forward to file a police report.

"When two individuals engage in a fight that a police officer does not witness they are typically encouraged to seek a criminal complaint in a local court," said Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll.

She said social media has a lot of similar content and it's difficult to track down.

"Who's to say that didn't happen five years ago?" Driscoll said.

She said overall, violent crime is down in the city by 4 percent.
