LACONIA, N.H. -- A black bear walked into a New Hampshire house through an open door, ate two pears and a bunch of grapes, took a drink from the family fishbowl and grabbed a stuffed bear on its way out the door. Mary Beth Parkinson said the bear apparently took advantage of the open outside door to get into her kitchen Tuesday in Laconia, about 20 miles north of Concord. At first she thought she had been burglarized."We found this (Teddy) bear, as well as a box of Goldfish crackers, on the lawn," Parkinson said. She said her young sons left the back sliding door open and the bear came right in."This bear apparently came through the open door -- my sons didn't close the door -- smelled the fruit on the counter and ate the fruit," she said. She also found water all over the kitchen, her fishbowl raided as well."There was one fish left in here, one flipping on the counter," Parkinson said. She thinks the garage door going up scared the bear enough that it fled the house. She said she arrived in time to save the fish. She said the crazy part of the story was the real bear taking off with the stuffed bear."I thought maybe it was a cub that she had and lost and it looked like a little baby cub to her and she picked it up and then dropped it when she had to jump over the wall to get away," Parkinson said. Parkinson said her 6- and 9-year-old boys made sure the doors were locked before they went to bed, although wildlife officials said black bears are generally not dangerous. Still, they advise avoiding contact with them. They said July is an active time for bears because they are in between food cycles.View and share your wildlife photos and videos on u local.
