BOURNE, Mass. -- A 43-year-old man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after being struck in the head with a baseball bat early Tuesday morning, Bourne police told the Cape Cod Times.

Daniel J. Merkel, 18, of Bourne, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The name and condition of the victim, who was attacked on Puritan Road in Buzzards Bay, was not immediately released.

Merkel was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Falmouth District Court.
