Jury selection begins Tuesday in the case of a man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at a Jamaica Plain hospital where she was a volunteer.

Police said Vernon Thompson, 40, attacked the girl at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in July 2008. Thompson was a resident at the hospital.

He allegedly led the victim to an area of the hospital where there were no security cameras before he raped her.

A staff member happened along a short time afterward and observed the two together, police said.
